Ed Garvey, writing for Wisconsin's Capital Times, urges Governor Jim Doyle to back public financing of campaigns and take special interest money's bite out of state politics. Dismissing and discrediting the arguments against a Clean Elections model, Garvey makes his case for putting elections back in the hands of people.

Garvey praises New York Governor-elect Eliot Spitzer for his aggressive and outspoken stance on campaign finance reform (which includes support for public financing) and encourages Doyle to make an equally strong statement: "Doyle could begin by supporting the Risser-Pocan full public financing bill called Clean Elections and by firmly telling all who seek to do business with the state that they may not contribute to the Doyle campaign fund."
