About the Pilot Project

 

The 2007 New Jersey Fair and Clean Elections Pilot Projects was incredibly successful. All nine seats in the three districts where public financing was available were won by candidates who participated in the system. The n


Here are some more details about the proposed expansion of the pilot project:

  • The pilot project would be in effect for eight legislative districts.
  • The New Jersey system, modeled after Clean Elections systems in place in Maine and Arizona, works by providing public funding for a candidate’s campaign after they collect a set number of small donations.
  • Once qualified, candidates can no longer raise private money and must adhere to strict spending limits.
