The LA Times editorializes that the "everybody does it" excuse is familiar:

"Everybody does it." When children say that, their mothers ask: "Would you jump off a cliff if everyone did it?" Maybe Republican defenders of DeLay are thinking, "yes."

Not to be out-done, DMN gets into the DeLay mess with an editorial, too. After outlining all of DeLay's troubles, they end with this:

House Republicans should be asking themselves whether they really want to stake their careers defending the folly of a politician who, despite all he has done for the Republican cause, has forgotten where he came from.

Today Newsday editorializes on the weakness of the House Ethics Committee:

When the Wall Street Journal speaks, the Houston Chronicle listens. In a news piece today, reporters Michael Hedges and Samantha Levine note that the critical WSJ editorial "took dead aim at [DeLay's] ethical conduct." They also point to stories that DeLay and his family decided to end life support for his father as potentially damaging, since it makes him look opportunistic in grabbing onto the Terri Schiavo case.

The very last line ofthis morning's editorial in the Allentown (PA) Morning Call:

...the unrepentant, arrogant majority leader should step down.

The Wall Street Journal editorial below stops a hair's breadth short of calling on DeLay to step down.

Another paper urges its state's GOP delegation to get rid of DeLay.

If conservative Republicans really want to talk about important issues, and not about Tom DeLay, they might start looking for a different leader.
