Are we reading correctly? Is soon-to-be-resigned Rep. Tom DeLay really on the short list of candidates to replace Josh Bolten as head of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), as UPI is reporting?

The same Tom DeLay who is indicted for campaign finance violations in Texas involving money laundering? In charge of the nation's budget?

The same Tom DeLay who specialized in pushing through special legislative favors for campaign contributors?

Keep in mind that the OMB is not just in charge of the budget. The ageny also reviews agency regulations before they are issued, meaning that in this position DeLay would be in a position to weaken environmental, health, and safety rules.

We'll keep you posted.
