Here is the Hartford Courant's report on the law strengthening the landmark Clean Elections law that the Connecticut legislature approved late last night, with just minutes left in the session. Public Campaign executive director Nick Nyhart blogged on this minutes after passage. It is particularly ironic that Connecticut continues to take a stand for reform, the same day that the U.S. House approved a weak lobbying "reform" law.
“In the wake of the Duke Cunningham and Jack Abramoff lobbying scandals, our congressional leaders have done nothing but try and pull the wool over our eyes, while calling it transparency” said Public Campaign executive director Nick Nyhart. “Their so-called lobbying ‘reform’ bill does nothing to curb the direct big money influence that super lobbyists like Jack Abramoff wield over our elected officials. Fortunately, the public won’t be fooled.”
