Steak and Sympathy

Bloomberg News has an interesting piece up on the trickle-down effect the Abramoff scandals are having on the formerly booming business of lawmaker-lobbyist lunches at expensive DC restaurants.  With increased scrutiny of interactions between elected officials and lobbyists, the influence-peddlers are having a harder time getting a date. Of course, even this small shakeup of business-as-usual has ruffled feathers.  Senator Trent Lott (R-MS),  says "he finds even the present system, with its spending limit, 'embarrassing' because it forces lawmakers to calculate how much is being spent on them. 'How infantile all of that is!'" Yeah, it's almost like...accountability.
