Legislators in Glass Houses

The Washington Times reports that Reps. Louie Gohmert and  John Carter, both of Texas, are calling on House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi to ask Rep. Alan B. Mollohan to step down from the House Appropriations Committee while he's investigated for stearing money to non-profits in his district whose leaders gave him campaign donations.   Mollohan rightly stepped down from the ethics committee last month while the investigation goes forward, but Pelosi's spokeswoman, Jen Crider, put her finger on the whiff of pot-calling-the-kettle, saying: "she looks forward to reading letters from Mr. Carter and Mr. Gohmert to apply the 'same standards' to Mr. DeLay, 'Congressman [Bob] Ney, Congressman [John T.] Doolittle, and Congressman [Richard W.] Pombo,' naming Republican members -- two from California and Mr. Ney of Ohio --who have been the subject of scandal." This, by the way, is the same Rep. Gohmert whose career was aided signficantly in 2004 by a little, uh, redistricting in Texas promoted by Tom DeLay...is he really one to talk? USA Today, meanwhile, picks up the thread of ethics trouble on both sides of the aisle and takes a look at potential problems for the Democrats.
