I Had A Scheme in Africa

The investigation of Rep. William Jefferson for bribery has spawned a series of controversies, from the outcry over the search of his congressional office, to the ongoing debate between the Congressional Black Caucus and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi over her efforts to remove him from the House Ways and Means Committee.

Into this mix, Ken Silverstein of Harper's adds a detailed exploration of the FBI's investigation into a series of other schemes - perhaps more than seven - in which Jefferson may have been involved, and his notable involvement in a number of business development deals in Africa.
