Now That's a Contested Race

The congressman at the center of a growing bribery investigation will have a lot of company on the ballot in November.  Rep. William Jefferson (D-LA) will face twelve challengers for his seat. Jefferson is accused of accepting bribes in return for promoting the interests of a company called iGate - whose CEO has already been convicted - with representatives of various African countries. Investigators have taped him talking to an FBI informant, accepting $100K in cash apparently destined for the Vice President of Nigeria - and earlier this year found $90,000 in the congressman's freezer.  Jefferson is currently battling to reclaim documents the FBI seized during a raid on his office, which is holding up the larger bribery investigation.
