Pombo and Abramoff, How Close?Submitted by Katie Schlieper on Wed, 10/11/2006 - 5:12pm.
Rep. Richard Pombo, already under scrutiny for taking $7,500 in campaign contributions from convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff may face further difficulty with the revelation that Abramoff billed his clients for two seperate contacts with the Congressman - who has said (and continues to say) Abramoff never lobbied him personally.
The contacts followed a vote on a bill that would have granted the U.S. Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Islands - a client of Abramoff's - a delegate in Congress, something the Governor of the commonwealth was opposed to. A month after Pombo voted no on the delegate proposal, Abramoff recorded his first contact with him - and a couple days later wrote him first check to Pombo's campaign.
