The Place and Time for Public Financing

Public Campaign Action Fund's David Donnelly writes in The Baltimore Sun about the mandate voters delivered to Congress on November 8th: clean up Washington. With majority control shifting to the Democrats, and incoming House Speaker Nancy Pelosi putting ethics rules at the top of her list, it's time for Congress to get behind full public financing of congressional elections.

As David writes, over 100 Democratic members of Congress have gone on the record supporting public financing, but like their Republican counterparts who took an electoral beating for their party's ties to scandals, Democrats have to raise money. Will they use their new majority to leverage even more fundraising power with lobbyists and special interests, or turn a new page and make Clean Elections a reality in Congress?
