The testimony of the man who bribed him has led to former Alaska Rep. Vic Kohring's conviction on three bribery charges. Bill Allen, the former CEO of VECO Corp. claims he bribed Kohring to ensure his support for a piece of legislation that would have brought millions of dollars in business to VECO.
This same probe has touched on a number of Alaska lawmakers including Sen. Ted Stevens and his son, former State Senate President Ben Stevens. State Rep. Pete Kott has also been convicted on bribery charges.
Alaskans for Clean Elections, meanwhile are still gathering signatures to put a Clean Elections measure on the ballot -- a welcome counterpoint to images of state legislators being led away in handcuffs.
