I was watching a re-run of the Daily Show with Jon Stewart last night that featured an interview with former President Bill Clinton. Clinton speaks at various times about the problem of money in modern campaigns, how demanding fundraising schedules have become, and his support for public financing of elections. You can watch the clip here -- interesting perspective.
Clinton ties declining returns on the presidential public financing tax check-off to declining public support for public financing of elections. However, we've consistently found high public support for a Clean Elections model of public financing (three out of four people in fact) and from what Clinton has to say about the rigors of fundraising it sounds like not a few members of Congress would support a new system too.
