Did Health Care/Insurance Industry Campaign Cash Exposure Lead to Sen. Nelson's Change of Heart?

Submitted by Johnny Papagiannis on Wed, 06/17/2009 - 1:53pm.

Newsweek has an article online discussing the recent exposure of Sen. Ben Nelson (D-Neb.) as a major recipient of health care and insurance industry campaign contributions, and how it is impacting the ongoing debate in Congress.

Using research from Public Campaign Action Fund, Change Congress has used direct mail and online ad's to show the huge amount of campaign contributions Sen. Nelson has received from health care and insurance interests. The article also makes mention of the Fair Elections Now Act, which is being pursued by eight national reform groups, including Change Congress and Public Campaign.

The President’s 2010 Budget lays the groundwork for reform of the American health care system, most notably by setting aside a deficit-neutral reserve fund of $635 billion over 10 years to help finance reform of our health care system to bring down costs, expand coverage, and improve quality.

The Obama administration’s 2009 Budget Proposal would end FFELP and force all schools to move to the Federal Direct Loan Program administered out of Washington

Because our diet and lifestyle typically lead to having too much acid in the body, a high quality water ionizer can provide an excellent solution to help balance body PH by producing strong Alkaline Drinking Water loaded with Antioxidants.

The Obama administration’s 2009 Budget Proposal would end FFELP and force all schools to move to the Federal Direct Loan Program administered out of Washington, D.C., beginning July 1, 2010. This change would not affect your ability to get a loan, but it would eliminate any choice you have in picking the lender you want, and it would probably cost you money. As of July 1, 2009, Kentucky students who borrow from us to pay the cost of education at Kentucky colleges and universities will not have to pay the origination and default fees charged on Federal Stafford Loans. Under the Direct Loan Program, all borrowers must pay both fees. The switch from FFELP to Direct Secured Loans will take money out of your pocket, add to the National debt, and most likely increase unemployment in Kentucky and impact our state’s college outreach and default prevention programs.
