Auto dealers put pedal to the metal for exemption from oversight in financial regulatory bill

The Indiana Gazzette has a story on an amendment to the financial regulatory reform legislation, currently being debated in the Senate, that would exempt auto dealers from oversight by the new consumer-watchdog agency that is a centerpiece of the bill. The auto dealers, armed with campaign cash and a team of powerful lobbyists, are pushing hard for the amendment.   According to the Center for Responsive Politics, in this year alone, auto dealers have spent more than $3 million on campaign contributions and lobbying expenses.     "We are full pedal to the metal," Bailey Wood, director of legislative affairs for the National Automobile Dealers Association, said of the dealers' efforts.  For the full story, click here.
