Elections Change: MD/VA cultures affect national Change

I believe the 50 states are looking to federal activity providing the legislative initiative in cleaning up elctuions everywhere. I also believe due to its location, that the DC capitol and the federal decison making process is permeated by Tradtionalistic Maryland/Virginia poltical cultures, that makes legislation/change slow and very incremental, for other states nationwide. Washington reigns in the other states who want more agressive change, by perpetuating and imposing this formal, old fashioned, MD/VA way of doing things onto Congressional procedures affecting all Americans.

There is an interesting pair of articles in Business Week contrasting both the fundraising and organizing styles of Sens. Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton as they duke it out for the Democratic presidential nomination. The two campaigns really provide a marked contrast in terms of how they view the engagement of small donors -- and even non-donors -- on the internet and how that has been reflected in their fundraising numbers.
