The war must end. The billions of dollars must be re directed to meet the needs of the citizens. Needless to say, our infrasturcture needs attention, education is in dire need of reorganization, health care remains a major problem for millions of people and housing and jobs are just some of the issues we need to attend to. The most important question that should be asked from every Candidate for President first which demands a clear, straight, simple and honest answer, but hasn't been touched yet. What are your plans regarding our Constitution, Habeas Corpus, guaranteed rights, freedoms, liberties and the laws of this country, the kidnapping, abductions, secret foreign prisons, torture used there, illegal wiretapping and Guantanamo? If you plan on stopping all that and returning America back into what it used to stand for, when do you intend to start and how long will it take! That would be the best strength Democracy could ever have. As Josef Stalin remarked, it does not matter who voted or how many voted, the only thing that matters is, who counted the votes? Think Florida 2000.

ALL elections should be financed publicly. There should be NO "special interest" money involved. Or should we say "special thievery" money.

I was very pleased that Sen. Edwards has endorsed the idea of public financing of all elections. It is about time that the American voter has the opportunity to make their decisions based on the content of the candidate's character, rather than the depth of of their pockets. The issue of character and leadership has never been more germain and relevant to the well-being of this nation, than it is at present. Candidates need to speak to the American people, rather than attending fund raisers that ignore the common man and lures only the rich and powerful!

It's easy to understand, what Edwards said about Public Campaign financing on Friday. the current systems is limited and broken. It only covers presidential elections, and the limit on funds to accept federal funding is to small, to win a presdiential campaign, especially one that is waged in all 50 states. given that that is the case and he is in the race to win it, not just to move the eventual nominee towrds his positions (ala Dennis Kucinich) on the issues he must opt out. given what Hillary and Barrack raised in the 1st quarter of 2007, it is likely that they will have raised the $150,000,000 limit before 2007 is finished! while that money might not make or break any of the candidates in Iowa or New Hampshire, it sure is going to be a fator on February 5, 2007. and probably will continue to be a factor, all the way to November 2008. Understanding that it's too late to change the rules for the 2008 presidential election cycle, Edwards pointed out that a future president is going to have to lead us to a system of public financing for all federal elections (Presidents don't have jurisdiction over state and local elections!) He certainly did not make as forceful a statement as I might have wished, by saying that he would introduce legislation to congress within some number of days of his innaguration, but his signalled clearly which side of the issue he is on, if not how he intends to proceed to make public campaign financing a reality.

I am glad John Edwards would support public financing of campaigns. It has worked so well in Arizona and Maine for 4 elections. It would keep politicians from spending so much time raising money and they could spend that time working to come up with ideas that help make America a better place for all Americans. Every year more and more money is being raise by candidates. Public financing is the best way to change the current system so candidates are elected because they have the best ideas. Good luck.

I'm not sure what to make of John Edwards' after- we've-won-in-the-future-endorsement of publicaly funded campaigns. This is a key issue that is undermining what politicians can or will do for the American people vs. private interests. Public Campaign should be doing some analysis of his and other politicians positions on this issue rather than merely accepting politicians word that in the future we'll attend to it. At the least Public Campaign should present the past records of candidates as a way of judging if they are likely sincere in their future endorsement of publicaly funded campaigns.

The only way we can have honest elections and restore our Democracy is through public financing. As it is now the coporations are buying our politicians to work for them and the American people are left out. They are selling our country our from under us. Also, the elected officials have to spend most of their time raising money for the next elections, taking time away from doing government business. Sincerely, Helen Plaja
