Trying to keep US elections fair is becoming an increasingly cynical business, and the (for profit)news media has become an extrememly unreliable "watchdog," to say the least. Returning to paper ballots might not be such a bad idea.

Re: Democrats - Submitted by Edward Pleskovitch

Sir: In response to your statement, "I am very upset that really nothing is changing."; as James Carvel has said, "The votes aren't there"...i.e. to get something done (I believe he was speaking of the Iraq war in this instance), but...When you have only a one seat majority in the U.S. Senate you can't move in any substansive manner.

Republicans vote in lock step with the president (and in stead with corporate wishes). For instance in the recent all night Senate session / debate on Iraq Democrats needed 8 (or 10?) Republicans to join them - they only got four. Still itwas worthy to bring the issue of this war to the forefront. [Unfortunately, on some (other) issues - some moderate Dems vote against their own party which is jusr too bad - they may should be weeded out]

Then there's that turn coat LIEberman who essentially adds one more Puke in the Senate making it 50 - 50. And that's the problem:

Americans needed to go to the polls in droves to give landslide victories to the Dems (the only races not flipped in favor of the Republicans by the Diebold people/hackers - because it would look too obvious).

My only issue with the Democrats is why don't they vocalize and demand a return to PAPER BALLOTS throughtout the U.S.? It works just fine in Canada, and it can work here in the U.S.! [I guess they feel they can hire better hackers? BTW the Secretary of State in California just threw out the majority of all touch screen electronic voting machines due to "extensive security flaws that could be breached by people who want to alter election results.":

Finally, praise Congressman Dennis Kucinich for bringing Articles of Impeachment against Dick Cheney - here' a guy who's got kahoonas!

Thanks,
Paul K.

I am an independent voter and always have been.I am getting VERY disolutioned by the democratic party and all the talk. I see very little of substance coming out of congress.Oh yes this bill has gone through, but will it be used or be effective?Anybodys guess on that question. There is all the whining and hemhawing about we can't do anything because the republicans will fillibuster or the president will veto.SO WHAT!!! If you don't try then how is the country to see who stands against progress and reform? I am very upset that really nothing is changing.
