Intern: Communications Department
Everyone wants to have their voices heard during an election season – how do you get your message out in a way that energizes the public about the work you do and attracts press coverage? Learn this summer as part of the team at Campaign Money Watch, as we work to connect the dots between campaign contributions and legislation in order to hold elected officials accountable for their favors to their biggest campaign contributors. Campaign Money Watch is a leading national organization working to put the issue of money in politics center stage during election season and hold politicians accountable for doing the bidding of their special interest campaign donors – not their constituents. Campaign Money Watch played an instrumental role in educating the public about the favors that politicians like Rep. Tom DeLay, Rep. Richard Pombo, and Ralph Reed have done on behalf of their biggest campaign contributors and we plan to conduct similar public education campaigns through the 2008 election cycle.
As a member of our Communications team you’ll apply your creativity and verbal and written communications skills while honing your political instincts and learning the tools to create and generate publicity around effective advocacy campaigns on the issue of money in politics. The successful candidate will be a self-starter with a strong interest in electoral politics and progressive campaign finance policy. We ask that you have excellent written and oral communication skills, exceptional attention to detail, and a temperament suited to a fast-paced, campaign environment Experience with website design, maintenance, and tools highly desirable Time Commitment: 40 hours/week Stipend: $150 per week To apply, please send a cover letter, resume, and writing sample of no more than two (2) pages to Kathryn Schlieper at kschlieper@publicampaign.org by April 4, 2008. Out Early? posted by Katie Schlieper on 08-28-2008 Is Jack Abramoff going to get sprung from the pokey a little earlier than anticipated? Apparently folks at the Justice Department are seeking to have his sentence reduced in return for Abramoff's cooperation in their ongoing public corruption inquiry which has already ended the political careers of a handful of legislators. He's currently serving a sentence in connection with another fraud charge, he's yet to be sentenced on the congressional stuff. No sandwiches!) have sent corporations and their lobbyists into overdrive because they're packing in enough partying (read: writing checks to candidates) during the conventions in Denver and the Twin Cities to stay hungover well into October. Ted Stevens (R) and Rep. Don Young (R) faced primary challenges none of the ballot initiatives got much love. But as they say, Rome wasn't built in a day. This is only the beginning of Alaska's fight for Clean Elections. Published in: Alaska | Clean Elections | Don Young | Ted Stevens |
