Ad Gets Censored

By Katie Schlieper
Created Sep 7 2007 - 2:17pm

Yesterday we released this ad [0]about Mitch McConnell and his ties to big money special interests. At the 11th hour last night a cable company Insight Communications, with ties to McConnell, pulled the ad from their rotation without cause or notice. Smells like censorship to us...

Though ABC, NBC, CBS, and another cable network had all aired the ad after verifying its accuracy, Insight, whose executives have give $17,000 to McConnell and whose CEO and top lobbyist are both allies of McConnell, decided not to run it. More bizarrely they didn't notify us, or give us a chance to respond to their concerns which is highly irregular.

We've released this statement [0] calling for Insight to stop their censoring activities:

Big money donors. Lobbyists with connections. A powerful Senator. Unaccountable big media. The result? Political censorship that squashes freedom of speech. This ought to disturb everyone - in Kentucky and around the nation.

It's not up to Insight to protect a Senator by controlling what information Kentuckians have access to. We've created a petition asking Insight to stop the censorship and put the ad on the air, you can sign it here. [1]

UPDATE:  We won!  Thanks to pressure from us and our members Insight Communications has agreed to run the ad -- keep an eye out for it next week.
