Here's the latest [1] on the controversy around replacing Bob Ney on the Republican side of the ballot with Ohio State Senator Joy Padgett. Ohio's Attorney General Jim Petro has said Padgett is eligible despite having lost her primary for Lieutenant Governor earlier this year...as Petro's running mate.
Ney, who many speculate will soon be indicted in connection with the Jack Abramoff corruption scandal, announced earlier this week he will not seek another term in office.
Ney has yet to submit a formal letter withdrawing his name from the ballot in Ohio. If he does so before August 19th a special election will be held to determine the Republican who will take his place on the ballot. If he withdraws after that date, Republican representatives from the counties he represents will choose his successor. Will he withdraw before the 19th and let the election go forward, or hold out for Padgett or another hand-picked candidate to be appointed?
