Carly Fiorina Attending Fundraisers With BP, Exxon Lobbyists

Watchdogs ask: Does she stand for Californians or Big Oil?

Washington, DC—Tomorrow, California Senate candidate Carly Fiorina will be holding three fundraisers in Washington, D.C. with lobbyists for BP, Exxon Mobil, Halliburton, Citigroup, and other entrenched special interests, according to invites acquired by PoliticalPartyTime.org. Campaign watchdog Public Campaign Action Fund asks, whom is she running to represent in Washington, D.C.?

“Three Wall Street and Big Oil-fueled fundraisers in Washington, D.C. in one day?” asked Nick Nyhart, executive director of Public Campaign Action Fund. “Carly Fiorina may not be a member of Congress yet, but coming to Washington, D.C. to raise money from lobbyists representing BP and Wall Street shows she’s not yet serious about cleaning up Congress."

“Fiorina could demonstrate her commitment to changing Washington’s ways by pledging to end this broken system when elected to Congress,” said Nyhart.

Next week, Fiorina will receive a copy of the Voters First Pledge, urging her to, if elected, co-sponsor and vote for legislation that would restore our government to one of, by, and for the people. The Fair Elections Now Act (S. 752, H.R. 1826) would make our elected officials accountable to us, not corporate donors funding their campaigns. With Fair Elections, candidates can run competitive campaigns for office on a blend of Fair Elections funds and a match on small contributions.

Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) and 23 members of the U.S. House delegation from California have all co-sponsored the legislation. A broad, bipartisan and cross-caucus group of more than 175 members of Congress have signed on as co-sponsors of the legislation.
