Adam Smith and I had the opportunity to head over to an event put on near the Capitol building by Project Vote Smart to get the word out about the valuable service they offer: thoroughly researched, non-partisan background information about where candidates for state and federal office stand on the issues, free of spin and rhetorical flourishes. Their website is a wealth of information, and a valuable tool for voters who want focus on the issues.
The Man Submitted by Katie Schlieper on Thu, 07/12/2007 - 9:25am.
Declare Yourself (a young voter registration group) has a new PSA out, "The Man". In it, two big campaign donors (one sporting a popped collar and the other looking alarmingly like James Taylor) express their outrage when a younger, less monied individual just "goes and votes" without playing the big money game. Good argument for the ties between big money domination and voter apathy. Also a good argument against pleated white chinos.
My two cents about DeLay's 'victory' yesterday Submitted by David Donnelly on Wed, 03/08/2006 - 11:15am.
I know Rick wrote about this earlier, but I wanted to add my two cents...In 2004, in the general election, DeLay received 55% of the vote. Yesterday, in a low turnout, only-the-faithful-voting primary election, he got 62%, only slightly better...

I'm not writing off the primary challengers. Who knows? But it's not likely any of them will knock him off. What is clear though, is that DeLay is running a smart campaign on the ground. He’s using a relatively new, innovative micro-ta...

Activists You Should Know posted by Katie Schlieper on 07-03-2008 A PBS producer and a writer have collaborated on a book, Your America that chronicles the work of accidental activists -- ordinary Americans who saw injustice and fought to fix it, creating successful grassroots movements for change in the process. One of the stories told is that of Jackie Thrasher a Clean Elections supporter in Arizona who went on to win a seat in the state House of Representatives. Published in: Arizona | Clean Elections Minimum Security Resort and Spa posted by Katie Schlieper on 07-01-2008 Monty Python told us to always look on the bright side of life, but former Alaska state Rep. Vic Kohring took it a bit far on his last day before beginning a three and half year prison sentence for taking bribes from Veco Corp. to advocate for a pipeline project. TPM Muckraker has the highlights from Vic's last day on the outside, his bizarre roadside thank you to the people of Alaska, and his ambitions for life behind bars.
